US citizens protest against Donald Trump at the American Consulate in Guadalajara.

American citizens residing in Guadalajara raised their voices this weekend in a protest outside the American consulate. Their goal was to express their outright rejection of the policies of the Donald Trump administration, particularly regarding immigration.

The demonstration, which brought together several protesters, served as a platform to denounce what they consider to be an authoritarian and dehumanizing approach by the current president of the United States. Participants emphasized the importance of the relationship between the two countries and the dignity of migrant workers.

What did the protesters say about immigration policies?

People expressed their discontent outside the American consulate in Guadalajara, where they emphasized the importance of Mexican workers to the United States.

“It’s terrible. In the United States, they even made a movie called ‘A Day Without a Mexican,’ and the United States is coming to a standstill without the support that workers give us. All they want is to be able to go there to work and earn money. That’s what we want: to be able to establish a bond between the two countries, for it to be a win-win for everyone,” commented one of the protesters.

They point out that the policies he has been implementing are regrettable, and especially regarding immigration, he has been a president who thinks he’s a king; a stance that has caused great indignation and demonstrations in different parts of the world.

“Today, all over the world, people are against President Trump, who thinks he’s a king. We came to protest in different places, both in the United States and around the world, and we came in front of the American consulate to show people that we disagree, that we are in a constitutional crisis in the United States, and that we love Mexico so much that we are deeply ashamed of the way he treats Mexico,” said Mercedes Dueñas during the protests.

The protesters explained that it is very unfortunate that the current president of the United States is carrying out his administration believing himself to be a king and, above all, seeking a completely authoritarian mandate.

“We are demanding everything against the current administration in the United States. Today (Trump) is going to hold a parade in the United States for his birthday, like something military or something from North Korea or Russia, and we are protesting this type of demonstration by him. I hope people will come to his event, and more than 2,000 of our events will take place around the world,” added another protester.

Given this, they hope that more and more people will join and, above all, that Mexican migrants are not treated like criminals, where even one person has already been reported killed at the hands of ICE.
