The municipality of Tampico is known nationally for its iconic fauna, the crocodiles, that attract locals and visitors alike.
Summer vacation is just around the corner, and Mayor Mónica Villarreal Anaya stated that new attractions will be added.
A Juancho route, as the lizards are known in southern Tamaulipas, is planned. Its purpose is 100 percent tourism, as the intention is to maintain the influx of visitors.
“It’s a tour that will depart from Laguna del Carpintero at night, and the route will cover the customs of these vehicles, what they do, and what their habitat is like,” the official emphasized.
The route that will be offered through the areas where the crocodiles live has not yet been defined; this remains to be determined to improve tourism.
“A first tour was conducted with these experts, showing where the caves are, how they behave, what they do, and I think we talk a lot about the Juanchos, but we know little about their dynamics, their customs, what the species is like, and what their relationship is with the habitat they live in,” the councilor stated.
What is the purpose of these tour proposals?
The purpose of these types of proposals, these tours, is to provide more options for visitors to enjoy the municipality of Tampico. In the spring, the Venezuelan ship was present, as well as other strategies that were emphasized, such as the Cantinas Route.
The southern region has natural tourist areas, so these are the ones that will be taken advantage of on this tour, which has not been previously reported.
Other attractions that have been considered relate to nature and birdwatching, as there is a diversity in the mangrove area, along the perimeter of the lagoons and rivers.
“We’re still missing a georeferenced catalog of these birds, as experts tell us, and we’re just looking for a printer. More than 245 species were found in our area, and there are some birds that can only be seen here in Tampico,” he said.
