The municipality of Playa del Carmen has launched a comprehensive transformation of its public spaces, aiming to dignify parks and advance a new urban identity. President Estefanía Mercado announced the rehabilitation of 376 parks in the city, as part of a broader effort to revitalize the municipal image.

The restoration program, which will be carried out in phases, includes the renovation of 36 high-traffic neighborhoods, starting with the 28 de Julio neighborhood. The first phase of renovations is expected to be completed within 37 business days, with three painting crews and two cleaning crews working simultaneously.

According to Mercado, all parks and public spaces will be renovated with a new “beach sand” color, which represents the city’s natural essence without any political undertones. The renovation process includes general cleaning, painting, rehabilitation of garden areas, removal of damaged playground equipment and debris, and strategic tree pruning to free up lighting and prevent risks during hurricane season.

The Secretary of Public Services, Julieta Martín, emphasized that the municipality has up-to-date monitoring of its 376 parks, allowing for efficient planning for their progressive maintenance throughout the period. She also called on citizens to take care of public spaces, as they represent public infrastructure intended for the enjoyment of the population.

“We call on all Playa del Carmen residents to take care of these spaces, which are yours,” Martín said. “These parks are being restored with great care and effort, and they deserve to be protected. We want an orderly, clean, beautiful, and safe city that reflects the pride of living in Playa del Carmen.”

The renovated parks will feature the new urban image, framed by the beach sand color as a symbol of unity and renewal. Citizens are invited to visit the first renovated parks and experience the transformation firsthand.
