The National Guard (GN) carried out the change of command at the 7th Military Police Battalion based in Durango. Germán Vite Reséndiz, Staff Colonel, assumed leadership of this unit and stated that the main objective will be to strengthen security in the state, with special attention to phenomena such as drug trafficking and migration.
During his official presentation, Commander Vite stated that, although no municipality has yet been identified where the GN’s presence needs to be particularly reinforced, the priority is to maintain balanced surveillance throughout the state.
“We are going to focus on this, more than we already have knowledge of,” he stated.
He noted that security work will be carried out in coordination with local authorities and other security forces, such as the Mexican Army, the State Police, and municipal corporations. “One institution alone cannot handle everything. I am not here to break ranks; I am here to strengthen the existing coordination,” he said.
The Colonel also called on the population to trust the National Guard and the personnel of the battalion he now leads. He assured that this unit has state coverage and has been undergoing a constant process of institutional strengthening since its creation in 2019. “We have personnel who are renewed year after year, and they are given the necessary training so they can perform efficiently and effectively,” he emphasized.
Finally, he reiterated that the actions of the National Guard in Durango will be aligned with the strategies defined by the Roundtable for Peacebuilding, seeking to promptly address any situation that puts citizen safety at risk.
