Discovery of charred remains in Tamaulipas reveals site of mass disappearance; groups and authorities participate

State and federal authorities, in coordination with search groups, reported the location of a suspected extermination camp in a rural area of the municipality of Díaz Ordaz, Tamaulipas, on the border with Reynosa.

The discovery was made by the collective Amor por los Desaparecidos (Love for the Disappeared), made up mostly of mothers of missing persons.

Edith González, president of the collective, reported that the location was identified thanks to an anonymous report received days earlier.

Due to the complexity of the terrain and the remoteness of the site, they decided to request assistance from security and search authorities. The initial inspection was carried out on Tuesday, and it wasn’t until Wednesday that the evidence was confirmed.

The site, located in the Arturo Flores ejido (common land), on an apparently abandoned property, presented sufficient grounds to be considered an extermination camp, according to González.

Charred skeletal remains, bonfire structures, and a metal drum were found at the scene, presumably containing oil or fuel used to incinerate bodies.

The area is considered high-risk, as a Gulf Cartel cell known as Los Metros operates there, with a strong presence between Reynosa and Díaz Ordaz. It is believed that the area may have been used by this criminal group to disappear and destroy human remains.

Members of the Mexican Army assigned to the Eighth Military Zone, members of the National Guard, the State Guard, personnel from the National Search Commission, the State Commission for Victim Assistance, as well as ministerial agents and agents from the Tamaulipas State Attorney General’s Office participated in the search, seizure, and evidence collection efforts.

Federal Operation: M-47, alleged leader of the Gulf Cartel, is indicted
A total of three people were charged after being captured in Tamaulipas with firearms, narcotics, and money. Among them is a man identified as the possible mastermind behind the kidnapping and murder of the members of the Fugitive Group.

This man is Santos “R,” alias M-47 and/or Jimmy, who is identified by authorities as a suspected member of a criminal organization. The other two arrested and now indicted are Raúl “M” and Jesús “P,” incidents reported on June 16.

The three individuals are accused of possession of a firearm and ammunition for exclusive use, possession of drugs for commercial purposes, and operations with illicit proceeds.
