An intense joint operation between the Colima State Police and the Navy was carried out last night in the community of Cerro de Ortega, in the municipality of Tecomán, on the border between Colima and Michoacán. This operation resulted in the killing of three alleged members of the Jalisco Nueva Generación Cartel (CJNG) and the arrest of 15 people.

According to official information, the arrests came after receiving reports of armed individuals and alleged suspicious activity. In response, the Colima State Government’s Public Security Secretariat confirmed that members of both groups were attacked by armed civilians.

The news of this arrest comes just days after the news broke that Cristian Fernando, “El Mencho’s” son-in-law, pleaded guilty to money laundering in the United States.

How did the confrontation with the CJNG in Colima unfold?

According to the authorities’ report, three of the attackers, allegedly linked to the CJNG (CJNG), were neutralized after repelling the attack. During the operation, weapons and tactical equipment related to the criminal organization were also seized.

Federal and state agencies, and the Tecomán Municipal Public Security Directorate, continue to carry out coordinated actions in the area to safeguard the safety of the population and arrest perpetrators of violence.

This operation adds to the multiple strategies and actions Mexican authorities have employed to halt organized crime operations.

Despite these efforts, federal highway Mexico 200, which connects Michoacán with Colima, remains closed near Cerro de Ortega as of this afternoon. This impedes access to the city of Tecomán. According to the social media accounts of the National Guard present on the country’s highways, the total traffic closure is in place on the Acalpican-Manzanillo stretch, specifically near kilometer 235+000.

Authorities are urgently calling on citizens to take precautions and heed traffic signs to avoid setbacks and seek alternate routes.

The blockade is being carried out by suspected citizens demanding the removal of security authorities from the area.

The events in Colima are a continuation of organized crime-related activity this week, especially in Michoacán, where businesses were closed and schools suspended classes on Thursday and Friday due to a horrific confrontation that resulted in the death of a minor.
