Northern Veracruz is under a state of emergency following the intense rains caused by Hurricane Erik, which have caused severe flooding in several municipalities, primarily in Ozuluama, where a gray alert has been declared.

In response to this situation, the Veracruz State Government, led by Governor Rocío Nahle, announced a series of civil protection measures to safeguard the population.

Classes suspended in a municipality in northern Veracruz

One of the most important decisions has been the suspension of classes at all educational levels in the municipality of Ozuluama. This measure, implemented by the state Ministry of Education in coordination with the municipal government, seeks to protect the physical integrity of students, teachers, and school staff.

Schools will remain closed for the next few days until further notice, depending on the weather.

DN-III plan activated in municipalities in northern Veracruz

At the same time, emergency operations were activated throughout the state. The DN-III Plan is currently operating in the municipalities of El Higo, Pánuco, Tantima, and Ozuluama, while the Marina Plan was activated in Tantima and the Tajín Plan in Xalapa and Emiliano Zapata.

Dam levels increase in Veracruz

In addition, the Gulf of Mexico Basin Authority announced that the Paso de Piedras Dam (Chicayán) will increase its extraction level to 400 cubic meters per second starting at 1:50 p.m. this Saturday, June 22. This decision is part of the preventive measures to avoid further damage downstream, although it also poses a risk to nearby communities already under water.

On social media, Governor Rocío Nahle confirmed that a State Emergency Committee has been established to coordinate assistance in the affected areas and reiterated that all actions seek to protect human life, property, and the environment.
