Navy Seizes Massive Cocaine Haul Worth Over $43 Million Off Mexican Coast of Guerrero

Mexican authorities have made a significant dent in cocaine trafficking with the seizure of more than 3.5 tons of the illicit substance off the coast of Guerrero. The haul, valued at over 846 million pesos (approximately $43.7 million), is one of the largest cocaine seizures to date by the Secretariat of the Navy (Semar).

The operation was carried out in collaboration with various government agencies, including the Attorney General’s Office, the Secretariat of National Defense, the National Guard, and the Secretariat of Security and Citizen Protection. Maritime surveillance patrols had been monitoring the area to prevent illicit drug trafficking and maintain law and order in Mexican marine zones.

During a routine patrol, surface units of the Mexican Navy detected a low-profile vessel, also known as a semi-submersible, carrying 180 sack-like bundles of white powder believed to be cocaine. Three crew members were on board and were apprehended by naval personnel.

Preliminary reports indicate that the cargo weighs approximately 3.5 tons, representing a significant financial blow to organized crime groups. The seized vessel, cargo, and detainees have been handed over to the Federal Public Prosecutor’s Office, which will compile an investigation file and determine the legal status of those involved.

This latest seizure brings the total amount of cocaine seized by Semar at sea since the start of the current administration to over 44.8 tons, demonstrating the ongoing efforts to combat drug trafficking and protect the population from its effects.
