This Saturday at 3:00 PM, the Mascota Expo will host a unique dog show at the Ek Balam Hall of the Siglo XXI Convention Center in Mérida. Alejandro Cámara, instructor and director of AECA (Specialized Animal Control Training), will lead a series of practical demonstrations with rehabilitated dogs to promote responsible dog ownership and rehabilitation.

The event will feature simulated risk scenarios, such as attempted aggression or assault, using dogs that were rescued from slaughter after displaying severe aggressive behavior. Cámara explained that these dogs had already bitten people and were about to be put down before he intervened to rehabilitate them. “These are dogs that had already bitten people; they were about to be put to sleep. I valued them, saw their potential, and decided to keep them for rehabilitation. Today they are part of the team,” he said.

In addition to the stage dynamics, the AECA team will offer informational sessions on various topics, including early puppy training, boundaries, canine body language, and warning signs to detect problematic behaviors. Cámara emphasized that responsible dog ownership goes beyond providing food and shelter. “It also involves knowing and understanding the dog from an early age,” he explained. “When a puppy growls when trying to get it down from a piece of furniture or when approaching its food, that is a red flag.”

During the activities, attendees will be able to interact directly with the trained dogs, put on protective sleeves, and participate in controlled simulations. Alejandro Cámara stressed that one of the biggest mistakes in dog breeding is the lack of early correction. “They let the dog grow like a weed, without guidance, without limits,” he said. “Our job is not only to correct, but to give people hope and tools to recover their canine companion.”
