Sonora will host the International Date Palm Festival: what can you expect from the event?

The Datilera (Date Palm Festival), which will be held from November 27 to 29, 2025, will consolidate its position as a strategic state for the development and promotion of date cultivation in Mexico.

The international event is organized jointly with the United Arab Emirates and seeks to strengthen agricultural, commercial, and scientific cooperation between the two nations.

To this end, representatives from the Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development and the Khalifa International Award for Date Palm and Agricultural Innovation (Kiadpai) will hold activities in both the state and Baja California, which are notable for their growing participation in national date palm production and the agroecological potential offered by their territories.

The inclusion of this region as a host country responds to its growing importance in date production, a crop that has seen a significant boost in the state since the signing of the first Memorandum of Understanding between Mexico and the United Arab Emirates in 2022.

The festival will feature exhibitions, technical symposia, scientific forums, and cultural activities aimed at sharing knowledge, promoting agricultural innovation, and positioning the Mexican date as an internationally recognized product.

In addition, it will allow local producers to establish links with strategic markets in the Middle East and North Africa, where this fruit has high cultural and economic value.

In 2023, Mexico exported more than 2,700 tons of dates to more than 20 countries, including the United States, Canada, and the United Arab Emirates, generating revenues of more than $11 million. Therefore, this festival represents an opportunity for Sonora to strengthen its productive and technical capabilities and for its producers to access global value chains, highlighted Sader representatives in the state.

Experts, researchers, businesspeople, and representatives from more than 20 countries interested in the sustainable development of the date palm are expected to attend. The festival will also promote Sonora’s potential to the world and represent another step in strengthening its rural, agro-export, and sustainable economy.
