The Secretary of Tourism in Veracruz, Igor Fidel Rojí López, said that the mission in the High Mountains region is to promote the three Pueblos Mágicos (Magical Towns) it has: Orizaba, Córdoba, and Coscomatepec. The goal is to promote the cultural richness of each one.
In an interview, he said he has already spoken with the mayor of Coscomatepec, José Luis Alonso Juárez, with whom he discussed holding festivals such as the national masked dance festival.
Coscomatepec, he said, is a Pueblo Mágico (Magical Town) along with the Pico de Orizaba volcano, and its culture and folklore should be promoted to attract thousands of visitors.
Igor Rojí indicated that they must wait for the calls to open to see if any other municipalities can join.
He expressed that it is necessary to encourage investment in that region and throughout the state of Veracruz, so that there are more and better hotel rooms.
“To date, there are 2,800 hotels available for stays, as well as 81,000 rooms, which is sufficient to accommodate domestic tourism,” he added.
Orizaba is the gateway to the central region of the country.
He emphasized that Orizaba’s geographic location, and the state itself, makes it the gateway to the central region of the country, and therefore considered the main source market for Puebla and Mexico.
“We have a lot to exploit and consolidate the state of Veracruz as a tourist destination,” he added.
He emphasized the adventure tourism offered by the High Mountains region, with its natural wealth, the Zongolica mountain range, where basements, caves, and rivers abound, and also the Pico de Orizaba volcano.
Orizaba architect Luis Rubén Hernández Vázquez speaks about the architectural wealth of Orizaba and the region.
“With what we have, we can encourage adventure tourism festivals like the Spartan sports race, so that it can be held in a municipality in the region,” he emphasized.
He also mentioned that there could be another cultural festival in venues in Orizaba and Córdoba, where there are beautiful buildings, ideal for cultural festivals.
“I just arrived at the secretariat, but we’re already talking with service providers about conducting a tour of Veracruz in the seven tourist regions, to talk with incoming municipal authorities and business chamber directors, and to visualize what tourism can be generated in the state,” he concluded.
Thus, he summarized, he began working on the assignment given to him by Governor Rocío Nahle: “Make Veracruz fashionable.”
