HOUSE OF CULTURE
The mansion that currently houses the Casa de Cultura in the city of Durango was built in the 19th century.
Originally a residential home, it was later acquired by the Federal Government and converted into the Mint and Assay Office for the city of Durango, gaining great importance during the Porfiriato.
For most of the 20th century, it served as the central office of the Treasury, and in the 1970s, the state government of Dr. Héctor Mayagoitia requested the allocation of the property to be used for the activities of the National Fund for Social and Cultural Activities (FONAPAS).
Since its founding in 1979, it has been under the direction of the state DIF (National Institute of Social and Cultural Development), and in 1999, it was attached to the Durango State Institute of Culture.
