Eight people died and 16 others were injured when a passenger bus overturned while traveling on the Puebla-Tlapa federal highway near the community of Ixcateopan, in the municipality of Alpoyeca.
According to the state Civil Protection Secretariat, the accident occurred during the early morning hours when the bus belonging to the “Línea de Oro” transportation company went off the road and plunged into a river.
Rescue teams were dispatched to the scene of the accident, where they confirmed the deaths of eight people and provided medical attention to the injured. Six of the injured were taken to the IMSS-Bienestar hospital in Tlapa for specialized care.
Initial investigations indicate that the passengers were originally from Cuernavaca, Morelos, and were traveling to the municipality of Tlapa, in the La Montaña region of Guerrero.
