Another truckers’ strike this Monday, July 7! Operators reported that they are organizing to close the Mexico-Puebla highway this morning, so traffic backups may occur and alternate routes may be required.
Transportation groups shared this information on social media, stating that due to the insecurity they face, they will demonstrate again, hoping to be able to talk with the authorities and prevent the protests from spreading.
“The Transporters Association is forced to announce the temporary closure of the highway due to the growing wave of assaults and acts of violence our members have suffered in recent weeks. Despite our repeated requests to police authorities for increased security and protection, we have not received the necessary attention to guarantee the safety of our users and drivers,” the statement reads.
According to the transport organizations that will carry out the blockades, the impacts are expected to begin at 5:00 a.m. on Monday, but they have not announced when they will end.
The closure will be at the San Marcos toll booth, located in the municipality of Ixtapaluca, Mexico State, and near roads such as the Mexico-Cuautla Highway and the Mexiquense Outer Ring Road, as well as Cuauhtémoc Avenue in the State of Mexico.
It is possible that the closures could affect Calzada Zaragoza and the Anillo Periférico throughout the day.
The closures are expected to primarily affect operators of routes 104, 98, and 96, as well as anyone else who wants to join the protest.
Blockades on the Mexico-Puebla Highway: What are the transport workers demanding?
Transport workers insist that they continue to be victims of assaults and violence in various parts of Mexico City and the State of Mexico.
In the case of the Mexico-Puebla line, they insist that it “has reached critical levels,” putting the lives of transporters and the products they transport at risk. Furthermore, this measure stems from a lack of response from the authorities.
