Ahead of the 2025 summer vacation, the Ministry of Environment and Natural Resources (Semarnat) and the Ministry of Health, through the Federal Commission for the Protection against Sanitary Risks (Cofepris), launched a mobile app called Playas Mx (Playas Mx), which allows users to quickly view the results of seawater quality monitoring in the country’s 17 coastal states.

The app, available for iOS and Android operating systems through their respective digital stores, can be downloaded completely free of charge. This tool will report and update, during each vacation period, the results of the monitoring carried out on the 289 recreational beaches located in 76 tourist destinations in Mexico.

The rigorous analysis carried out by authorities ahead of the 2025 summer vacation period included a total of 2,355 samples from 393 sampling points. As a result, it was determined that 94.46%, or 273 beaches, meet the standards for recreational use. However, there are a few that failed the test.

The public is urged to maintain beach cleanliness during the holiday season, as preserving these natural spaces is everyone’s responsibility.

These Colima beaches DO NOT meet Cofepris’ recreational use standards.

Located just under a four-hour drive from downtown Guadalajara, El Real beach in the municipality of Tecoman in Colima is the only beach in the state not suitable for recreational use.

On the contrary, these beaches in the same municipality are suitable for recreational visits.

Likewise, all the beaches in Manzanillo were approved, so the following beaches are open to visitors: Juluapan, La Boquita, Miramar, Santiago, La Audiencia, Salahua, Las Brisas, and San Pedrito. Cuyutlán and Paraíso in the municipality of Armería are also allowed.
