Governor Salomón Jara Cruz signaled the start of the 2025 Guelaguetza Half Marathon, which was attended by more than 10,000 people from Oaxaca, from different states and abroad.
The competition, organized through the Sports Institute (Indeporte), started at the Guelaguetza Auditorium, where the sporting event began at 7:00 a.m.
The route included International Highway 190 as its main route, heading toward Calzada Niños Héroes de Chapultepec.
The return points were the 28th Military Zone for those who ran 10 kilometers; and the Benemérito de las Américas Administrative City Crossroads for those who ran 21 kilometers.
Both routes concluded at Paseo Juárez El Llano, after passing through various streets in the Historic Center of Oaxaca de Juárez.
The top 1,500 finishers in both distances received a commemorative medal. The event included the following categories: freestyle; masters (ages 39 and older); and veterans (ages 49 and older). People with disabilities also participated, in a commitment to inclusion and equity.
The top five places in each category and race were recognized in the 10-kilometer race, as well as the top three places in the 21-kilometer race. The top three places in their respective distances were also awarded.
As part of the recognition, those who placed first in each category received a commemorative trophy inspired by the feathered headdress of the Feather Dance, a symbol representative of Oaxacan cultural tradition.
Since its inception, the event has generated widespread interest, attracting registration from participants from various regions of Mexico and more than 20 countries, including the United States, Italy, and Kenya.
With this event, held during the Guelaguetza festivities, Oaxaca consolidates its position as a leader in social sports and sports tourism, promoting physical activity for people of all ages in an environment of healthy coexistence and international exposure.
