JAC joins the Mexican-assembled hybrid competition

Jac Mexico is now entering the plug-in hybrid vehicle market—a rapidly growing segment in the Mexican market—after emerging as a 100% electric brand. It is introducing new models where it previously lacked a presence, with the minivan, also assembled at its Hidalgo plant.

The automaker is the Chinese-Mexican brand that sells the most electric vehicles in our country, both for fleets and retail. However, demand from some sectors that rely on road transport forced it to launch a range of hybrids to continue the path of affordable electric mobility.

Isidoro Massri, CEO of JAC Mexico, said that the hybrid family it is launching, the Traveler PHEV minivan, and the JAC 6 PHEV (plug-in) SUV, are part of the new assembly line at its recently expanded Hidalgo plant. Therefore, the automaker aims to increase its production from 25,000 to 30,000 units by the end of 2025.

“We are not slowing down electric vehicles or electromobility; rather, we are introducing more electromobility with two electric motors and gasoline so that those who couldn’t afford an electric vehicle can take the first step toward affordable electrification,” the executive explained to El Economista.

During the presentation of the Dual-e-Drive hybrid family, Massri commented: “In past years, we believed the change needed to be radical, but Mexico’s reality is different. Today, we understand that there is no single technology for all users. Dual e-drive represents that balance between efficiency, reliability, and true freedom,” explained Isidoro Massri.

The brand claims that more than 95% of daily urban journeys can be made in 100% electric mode, reducing fuel consumption and emissions without compromising on-road functionality. This logic responds to the new Mexican consumer: informed, pragmatic, and open to clean technologies that don’t require compromises.

Dual-e-drive, the new line of plug-in hybrids, guarantees more than 100 kilometers of fully electric range and more than 1,120 km of combined range (combustion and electrification).
