This Tuesday, residents of this port’s 40th Street and 71st Street were surprised to find four metal containers placed there during the early morning hours, blocking access to the beach.

According to testimonies from local residents, the containers were placed around 4:00 a.m., two on each side of the street.

Following the report, officers from the Progreso Municipal Police and the Public Security Secretariat (SSP), as well as City Hall personnel, arrived at the scene and placed closure seals.

The Progreso City Hall, through its Department of Ecology, has begun an investigation to identify the person or persons responsible for this blockade, which represents an illegal obstruction of public access.

After the containers were removed, the owner of one of the properties adjacent to the beach entrance stated that the street belongs to him, as it was granted to him during the municipal administration headed by Julián Zacarías Curi.

However, he did not present any documentation proving himself as the legal owner of the stretch of road.

However, this attempt to privatize part of the beach, closing off access, has generated anger and outrage among residents, who demand that free access to the beaches be respected, as established by law.
