As part of the security strategy for the 2025 summer vacation period, 40 checkpoints and social distancing measures were installed on various sections of Durango’s highways.
To strengthen these efforts, the Durango State Security Secretariat is working in coordination with various security institutions, such as the National Guard, which has a significant deployment of personnel throughout the state.
Óscar Armando Galván Villarreal, head of the Durango State Security Secretariat, also announced that the State Police’s work is carried out in coordination with the Ministry of National Defense, including the Investigative Police within their jurisdiction, and the municipal police forces.
“All security committees are communicating daily. We are aware of the information being generated and what is happening in each municipality.”
Galván Villarreal added that citizens can go to these checkpoints with confidence that they will receive the information and assistance they need. “You’ll find a friendly police officer, a police officer who will guide you, a police officer who will help you, a police officer who will discuss whatever you need, any concerns you may have, and any situation to make it happen,” he stated.
Regarding the current situation on the Cuencamé-Zacatecas Highway, which had been targeted for theft, Galván Villarreal noted that crime rates have been declining, as reported by the National Executive Secretariat of Public Security, and that vehicle theft has also decreased. “But we’re not going to declare victory, nor are we going to ring the bells. The truth is that it’s a daily task. It’s a complicated issue, perhaps due to vehicle theft, but the strategy has worked. The National Guard implemented important operations in that region, as well as we did with the municipal and state police, in a very coordinated manner.”
The Secretary of Public Security in Durango issued some recommendations for people considering traveling by road during the holiday period, such as: Check the vehicle before leaving, do not drive at excessive speed, respect signs, preferably drive during the day, however he assured that the entity has an effective security strategy for travelers.
