PAN proposes life imprisonment for officials allied with organized crime

The national leader of the PAN, Jorge Romero Herrera, proposed imposing life sentences for any public official who allies himself with criminals.

He warned that the recent violent incidents and accusations in states governed by Morena confirm an alarming pattern of complicity with organized crime.

He specified that, while there are no accusations against President Claudia Sheinbaum, her role as head of state is to ensure that no governor of any party is linked to illicit activities.

“On this issue, we must join forces. Therefore, the PAN will propose life sentences for all public officials allied with organized crime. Let’s see what Morena thinks,” he said.

Romero Herrera said that what happened in Tabasco with former Secretary of Security Hernán Bermúdez Requena “is not an isolated case,” but rather part of a pattern that is being repeated in state after state.

“What else is needed to realize that in Mexico there are increasing cases of a clear association between Morena governments and organized crime? What just happened in Tabasco is not an isolated case. It’s part of a pattern repeated in state after state, the result of six years of hugs and not bullets,” he maintained.

The PAN leader charged that, in Tamaulipas, governed by Morena, fuel theft vehicles “parade in broad daylight” without the governor doing anything. And that in Sinaloa, the violence has led to a state of war, the massive closure of businesses, and the forced displacement of families.

“And now, in Tabasco, the accusation is no longer one of complicity, but of fabrication: there is talk of the creation of a new criminal group, ‘La Barredora,’ sponsored by the state government itself,” he added.

Finally, he criticized the fact that, instead of providing answers, the government reacts with attacks, and mentioned that no matter how much they try to intimidate, censor, or distract with dirty campaigns, “the PAN will not remain silent.”
