From July 24 to 27, Durango will host the first-class relic of Saint Jude Thaddeus, one of the most revered saints in Mexico. The local Archdiocese reported that it is the arm of the apostle, traditionally preserved and venerated in the Basilica of San Salvatore in Lauro, in Rome.

The relic, classified as first-class, that is, a fragment of the saint’s body, was transferred to Mexico with the permission of His Eminence Angelo Cardinal de Donatis, Vicar General of His Holiness for the Diocese of Rome, and the Congregation for the Causes of Saints. Its visit to Durango is part of a tour of various dioceses in the country.

It arrived in Durango on July 24.

The itinerary began this Thursday, July 24, at the Minor Cathedral Basilica of Durango, where it was displayed beginning at 10:00 a.m. It will then be transferred to the city’s Social Reintegration Center (CERESO) #1. On Friday, July 25, the relic will again be available for veneration at the Cathedral, from 9:30 a.m. to 10:00 p.m.

On Saturday, July 26, it will be taken to the New Shrine of Guadalupe from 11:00 a.m. to 3:30 p.m., and then its exhibition will continue at the Temple of Saint Jude Thaddeus, located in the Héctor Mayagoitia neighborhood, from 4:00 p.m. until Sunday, July 27 at 9:30 a.m., at which time the relic will be dismissed and transferred to the Diocese of Querétaro.

According to Archdiocese spokesperson Father Noé Soto, this visit aims to strengthen faith and offer a moment of contemplation for devotees of Saint Jude Thaddeus, known as the patron saint of difficult causes. The organization has been coordinated with the ecclesiastical authorities at each point of visit.

He emphasized that the cult of Saint Jude Thaddeus is one of the most widespread religious expressions in Mexico, and his image is common in churches, homes, and businesses. His popularity has been consolidated by the attribution of favors granted through his intercession, which is why thousands of people gather each year in different parts of the country to venerate him.
