More than 60 Spanish travel agents enjoyed an unprecedented sensorial experience by participating in the “Traveling with the Palate” workshops, an initiative of the Yucatán Secretariat for Tourism Development (Sefotur), in collaboration with the tour operator Icárion, which specializes in Latin American destinations.

During these sessions, held in Madrid and Zaragoza, attendees delved into the richness of Yucatecan cuisine through practical classes where they prepared iconic dishes such as cochinita pibil and lime soup. The activity was part of the state government’s tourism promotion strategies to strengthen the destination’s presence in the competitive Spanish market, the second largest in Europe for tourist arrivals to Mexico.

The experience combined tourism training with traditional cuisine, allowing agents to discover Yucatán’s history, roots, and cultural identity through its flavors. Diana Rodríguez Rito, Sefotur’s project leader for the European market, presented the state’s main attractions, highlighting its authenticity and diversity.

Between January and May 2025, Yucatán welcomed 1.1 million overnight tourists, an increase of more than 106,000 compared to the same period last year. Of these, 22% were international tourists, mostly from Europe and North America.

Currently, Sefotur maintains 16 joint promotional campaigns with international tour operators and platforms such as World2Meet, Ávoris, Journey Latin America, Expedia, TUI, Despegar, Viajes El Corte Inglés, and PriceTravel, consolidating the state as a world-class destination.
