To mark the summer vacation season, the traditional Coleto Sweet Fair takes place in the halls of the San Cristóbal Museum (MUSAC). This gastronomic showcase offers visitors and locals more than 150 traditional, artisanal sweets.
The eight-day event is an additional attraction for tourists who have begun arriving in the city and aims to highlight the work of regional sweet artisans, who preserve traditional recipes that are part of the cultural and culinary heritage of San Cristóbal de Las Casas.
Among the sweets that can be enjoyed at the fair are chimbos, cocadas, acitrones, calabaza, gaznates, mocha, nuégados, cuernos, and figs, among others, all prepared with traditional ingredients and techniques passed down from generation to generation.
The organizers announced that the fair will be open to the public from 8:00 a.m. to 11:00 p.m., at the MUSAC (formerly the municipal presidency) facilities, so that attendees can enjoy the delicacies on display in peace.
David Ballinas Mijangos, one of the participating confectioners, noted that this year 56 artisans are presenting their products, highlighting the diversity of colors, flavors, and presentations.
Finally, he emphasized that this fair not only represents an opportunity for local consumption, but also a way to recognize and value the talent of those who, through the art of confectionery, preserve a tradition that gives identity to San Cristóbal de Las Casas.
