A truck driver was threatened by robbers while traveling on the Cuacnopalan-Oaxaca highway on the night of Wednesday, July 30th. He refused to be intimidated by the criminals and rammed them with his vehicle to prevent the robbery.
This happened despite the shots fired by the criminals, who fled upon seeing their vehicle hit at kilometer 98+200 of the highway, near the San José Miahuatlán toll booth.
The driver was assisted by motorists traveling on this road and requested assistance from security forces. The first to arrive were members of the Federal Highways and Bridges (Capufe). They brought an ambulance to treat the driver in case he was injured, a service that was not requested.
The robbers were traveling in a cherry-colored Renault, which they pulled up alongside him and, using firearms, forced him to stop. When he didn’t, they began shooting at him. It was then that the worker summoned his courage and hit the robbers’ car.
When the vehicle broke down, the criminals got out and fled, heading into the hilly area.
Drivers mentioned that the presence of National Guard members occurred again some time after the incident, indicating that the lack of surveillance on this highway remains the main problem. Despite the agreement reached with authorities last Monday, the issue remains unaddressed.
