Pay attention because another massive bank closure is coming in Mexico. The National Banking and Securities Commission (CNBV) has already confirmed that banks will be closed for the national holiday.

Why are banks closing?

The sixth massive bank closure is coming in 2025, and no, it’s not due to a crisis or financial problems. The National Banking and Securities Commission (CNBV) has already issued the official notice: on Tuesday, September 16, banking institutions throughout the country will close their doors to celebrate Mexico’s Independence Day.

This means there will be no:

Branch service
In-person transactions
Direct customer service

But don’t worry, not everything stops. ATMs, online banking, and mobile apps will remain available so you can make your basic transactions.

Of course, if you need to make urgent payments or interbank transfers, it’s best to do so before the 16th, as they could be reflected as late as Wednesday, September 17, when everything returns to normal.

Take note! These are the other days banks will not be open in 2025

If you’re already planning your finances for the year, note down the upcoming official bank closures:

Monday, November 17 – Commemoration of November 20
Friday, December 12 – Bank Employees’ Day
Thursday, December 25 – Christmas

Operations will also be suspended during these days, but as always, you can count on your banking app and ATMs. Just keep in mind that transactions between different banks may take longer if made on these days.

Important note: Banco Azteca is closed

In case you didn’t know, Banco Azteca is open 365 days a year, including Sundays and holidays. So if you need to run an urgent errand that day, you could stop by one of its branches.

However, if you make a transfer to another bank, the transaction won’t be reflected until the next business day.
