The United States government revoked the visa of the mayor of Nogales, Sonora, Juan Francisco Gim, as announced by the mayor himself through a video shared on social media.
What was the mayor’s reaction?
In his message, the official assured that he remained calm and had a “clear conscience,” as he had not been accused of any misconduct.
“Today I want to talk to you about my visa situation. Indeed, the United States government has taken action regarding my immigration status.
“I remain calm and have a clear conscience because I have not been accused of anything improper,” he said.
He also denied that this incident is a scandal, but rather an administrative process that, in his own words, he is addressing responsibly and respectfully.
Message from the Mayor:
Gim assured that he continues to carry out his duties normally, emphasizing that from his office, he is addressing matters that are important to the city of Sonora. He also called for unity and joint work for those who need it most.
“I ask you not to fall into political confrontations. Let us work together without divisions. For those who need us most. My commitment is to you, to Nogales, to the great border we are building,” he concluded.
What are the reasons why the US can cancel a visa?
The document that allows entry into the United States can be revoked for actions such as: if, when traveling to US territory, one carries weapons, explosives, or drugs; if one fails to declare sums of money greater than $10,000, or if one claims to be an American without being one.
It can also be canceled if it is lent to another person to enter the United States, or if it is used for profit, such as working or purchasing merchandise for resale in Mexico.
