The Playa del Carmen Jazz Fest returns for a second edition, taking place from September 15th to October 5th, offering a unique experience combining concerts, musical training, film, talks, community activities, and a space for jazz lovers and music collectors in various formats (vinyl, cassette, CD).

Organized by Explayarte Asociación Civil, the festival’s mission is to contribute to the cultural development of Playa del Carmen and all of Quintana Roo through art, education, and the creation of new audiences for music.

Silent Concerts will take place on September 27th and 28th, an innovative format where attendees enjoy live concerts through high-fidelity headphones, allowing for an immersive experience without external interference. Participating artists include Meen Green from Mérida, Yucatán, and Oasis Jazz Collective from Playa del Carmen.

The concerts will take place at the Teatro de la Ciudad on October 3rd, with Joan Chamorro, Big Band Jazz de Cancún, and Big Band Juvenil de la Universidad Explayarte. and on October 4, the Diego Maroto Quartet (with Luri Molina, Pancho Lelo de Larrea, and Juan Ale Sáenz), the Obed Orozco Trio (with Rodrigo López and Ieoushua Barragán), and the Explayarte Jazz Ensemble. On October 5, Karen Souza, Zoar Miranda, and the Explayarte Jazz Ensemble will perform.

In the area of artistic training and community, there will be Music Pedagogy workshops taught by Joan Chamorro of Spain, creator of the Chamorro Method. This workshop is supported by the Ibermúsicas program and offers scholarships for active teachers.

There will also be jazz for beginners, an improvisation workshop, basic musical language, and master classes taught by Diego Maroto, Pancho Lelo de Larrea, Luri Molina, Juan Ale Sáenz, Arturo Báez, Rodrigo López, Hugo Gutiérrez, and Bernardo Ron, as well as a virtual talk with Raulio about the music industry and roundtable discussions on the jazz scene in Mexico and Latin America.

The main concerts have a fee, but Explayarte A.C. will provide free tickets to organizations working with youth in Playa del Carmen. The training activities and talks are free, except for Joan Chamorro’s workshop, which requires a recovery fee with the possibility of a scholarship.

The Playa del Carmen Jazz Fest seeks to establish itself as an artistic and educational benchmark in the Mexican Caribbean, promoting jazz as a tool for social transformation, education, and cultural awareness.
