An eagle is under the care of Veracruz Fire Department personnel after being rescued Thursday afternoon in a neighborhood in western Veracruz.

Veracruz Firefighters Rescue an Eagle in the XANA Subdivision
According to the agency’s deputy commander, Orvil Sandiel, the bird allegedly crashed into the window of a home in the XANA subdivision, prompting residents to request assistance in its safekeeping.

He indicated that the bird was taken to the Fire Department facilities and will be transferred to the Veracruz Zoo for treatment, as it appears uninjured, but it needs to be examined.

“It’s an eagle. We need to take it to the zoo for a doctor to examine it. We have it safe, but it needs to be examined for any fractures. Apparently, it crashed into the window of the XANA subdivision,” he explained.

He commented that the fire department receives two to three calls a month requesting assistance in the rescue of wildlife, including opossums, snakes, crocodiles, and other species, such as the eagle in this case.

All rescued animals are taken to the zoo for a detailed assessment of their situation.

He stated that so far, in all the cases where they have intervened, no animal has attacked people. However, the recommendation is not to try to grab them, but rather to call the authorities.

“It is preferable, when you find animals like these last two cases, involving snakes and the eagle, to call us so we can intervene,” he added.

Finally, Sandiel mentioned that in the case of the crocodiles that have been sighted by citizens in the lagoon area, he noted that this is their natural habitat, so the recommendation is not to enter them because they are not safe areas.

It’s worth mentioning that the Fire Department recently also intervened with a boa constrictor found in a vacant lot in the northern area. The boa constrictor was also taken to the zoo because it was pregnant.
