A low-pressure zone formed over the Atlantic Ocean at noon this Monday, which could generate a tropical cyclone in the following days, the National Meteorological Service (SMN) reported.

The agency detailed that this new system has a 60% probability of cyclonic development in the next seven days. If it develops, it will be named Fernand.

While Hurricane Erin moves off the coasts of the Bahamas and Cuba, the new low-pressure zone is located in the central Atlantic, off the coasts of Colombia and Panama.

As of Monday, it is producing some disorganized showers and thunderstorms; however, forecasts indicate that a tropical depression could form by the end of the week.

This low-pressure system is moving from west to west-northwest at approximately 20 mph (32 km/h). Models indicate that its path could take it to the coasts of the Dominican Republic and Cuba, near the coast of Quintana Roo.

The interaction of the Mexican monsoon, low-pressure channels, and tropical waves 23 and 24, along with the entry of moisture and low-pressure systems at various levels of the atmosphere, will affect Mexico on Tuesday.
