Initial reports indicate that a gunman attacked people celebrating a patron saint festival near the Infonavit Malanquín neighborhood. Other reports indicate that at least two individuals were involved.

The San Miguel de Allende government, through the Ministry of Citizen Security, confirmed the deaths of two people and 17 injuries following the attack that occurred on the night of August 17 in the Infonavit Malanquín neighborhood.

Authorities are responding to the emergency

According to the Ministry of Citizen Security, the injured were taken to various hospitals in the city, where they are receiving medical attention and, later this Monday, will be assessed for possible release.

Following the report to the 911 Emergency System, Municipal Police officers responded to the scene to secure the area and notify the Guanajuato State Attorney General’s Office (FGE), which has already initiated the corresponding ministerial investigations.

Condemnation and commitment of the municipality

The municipal government regretted and condemned the violent events, which it described as a cowardly act against the population.

At the same time, it reiterated its commitment to strengthening security throughout the territory and to working closely with ministerial authorities to clarify the case.
