Support for cattle ranchers due to border closures will begin in Sonora, Coahuila, and Durango
The project’s first phase will begin with the states of Sonora, Coahuila, and Durango, the main cattle exporters. Chihuahua and Tamaulipas will later join, entities that will be part of the second phase.
“We are finalizing the final details. The idea is to present it directly to the producing states. We are starting with Sonora, Coahuila, and Durango, and then Chihuahua and Tamaulipas will be added,” Sheinbaum said.
Support for meat production is part of Plan Mexico
The president explained that the initiative is part of Plan Mexico and aims to promote not only cattle fattening, but also the industrialization and marketing of meat in the domestic market. With this, the federal government seeks to consolidate self-sufficiency in this sector and especially support small producers.
Sheinbaum also noted that, although talks are ongoing with the United States government to define the parameters that would allow the border to reopen to exports, the project is not dependent on that agreement, as its central objective is to strengthen domestic meat production.
“The purpose is to expand the country’s productive capacity and support ranchers, regardless of the border reopening,” she stated.
With this plan, Tamaulipas is poised to join the second phase of a project that aims to make Mexico a regional benchmark in meat production and supply, benefiting both the domestic market and local producers.
