Rain will continue throughout much of the country this Friday, August 22, driven by the Mexican monsoon, tropical waves, low-pressure channels, and the entry of moisture from the oceans.

What will the weather be like in Durango and the rest of the country?

General Forecast

According to the National Meteorological Service (SMN), the Mexican monsoon will bring heavy rains, with very heavy rainfall in the northwest of the country, as well as showers in areas of the Baja California Peninsula.

Meanwhile, tropical wave 24 will slowly move across western Mexico, bringing heavy rains to that region, with intense rainfall in Jalisco.

Low-pressure channels inland, combined with an upper-level trough and the entry of warm, humid air from the Pacific Ocean, the Gulf of Mexico, and the Caribbean Sea, will bring heavy to very heavy rains to areas in the northeast, center, south, and southeast of the country, including the Yucatán Peninsula. In Oaxaca and Veracruz, heavy rains are forecast.

Finally, the hot to very hot weather will continue in northern states, as well as in states along the Pacific coast, the Gulf of Mexico, and the Yucatán Peninsula. Temperatures above 45 degrees Celsius are expected in Baja California and Sonora, while a heat wave will prevail in Baja California, Baja California Sur, and Oaxaca.

What will the weather be like in the state of Durango?

This Friday, August 22, Durango will experience unstable atmospheric conditions, with showers and heavy rain forecast in different regions of the state.

Precipitation could accumulate between 25 and 50 millimeters, accompanied by lightning, gusty winds, and even possible hail.

Cool to mild weather is expected in the morning, with cold conditions in mountainous areas, where minimum temperatures could drop between 0 and 5 degrees Celsius.

Towards the afternoon, the weather will become warm to hot across much of the state, reaching highs of 35 to 40 degrees Celsius.

Winds will remain from the east and northeast, with speeds of 10 to 20 km/h (6 to 12 mph) and gusts of 30 to 50 km/h (19 to 31 mph), which could favor the formation of dust storms in some parts of the state.

According to the National Meteorological Service (SMN), this Friday, August 22, the city of Durango is expected to wake up with temperatures around 15 degrees Celsius (59 degrees Fahrenheit), rising to 27 degrees Celsius (80 degrees Fahrenheit) throughout the day between 1:00 and 2:00 PM.

The sky will remain partly cloudy to cloudy all day, and rain is expected to begin in the capital at 4:00 PM, possibly continuing until 9:00 PM, although this rainfall is not expected to be very intense.

As for the wind, gusts are expected to reach up to 21 km/h.
