President Claudia Sheinbaum has reiterated the call to Morena members and their allies for republican austerity, which her predecessor preached so much, but it seems some have completely ignored her.
Several cases have been documented where lavish spending and luxury have been a constant feature of several Morena party members.
Below, we present some of the most scandalous cases of Morena politicians who do not adhere to the principle of austerity.
Diana Karina Barreras and Sergio Gutiérrez Luna: Jewelry, Luxury Brands, and Travel
The case of PT representative Diana Karina Barreras, known on social media as Dato Protegido, and her husband, Morena member Sergio Gutiérrez Luna, has also caused a stir due to their luxurious lifestyle.
Journalist Jorge García Orozco has documented, in various tweets, the designer clothing and accessories worn by both:
Gucci aviator shoes, 10,710 pesos.
Marsèll boots, 19,453 pesos.
Dolce & Gabbana sneakers, 18,000 pesos.
A Tiffany engagement ring, over 1 million pesos.
A Prada Galleria bag, 100,000 pesos.
Magnanni shoes, 11,453 pesos.
Christian Louboutin Kate shoes, $850.
One of the most controversial episodes was when the congresswoman was caught getting off an Army plane with her husband, despite the fact that planes should no longer be used to transport politicians due to the “austerity” policy.
In addition, Gutiérrez Luna posted on social media a bottle of Cartier Brut Cuvée Champagne, an exclusive edition from the Cartier brand, only given to those who spend more than one million pesos in its stores.
Monreal Captured at a Luxurious Madrid Restaurant
Ricardo Monreal, coordinator of the deputies in San Lázaro, added to the controversy.
His absence from the Morena National Council due to a “family commitment” did not go unnoticed.
Recently, the newspaper Reforma leaked a photograph showing the Zacatecas politician at the “Flor y Nata” restaurant in the prestigious Rosewood Villa Magna hotel.
In the image and in the style of celebrity figures, Monreal was captured wearing sunglasses, apparently to avoid identification.
Ricardo Monreal in Spain
On social media, the legislator emphasized that he paid for the trip out of his own pocket and denied staying at the hotel, although he acknowledged having breakfast at the hotel’s restaurant.
“A photo of my wife and I appears in a Mexican national newspaper, along with a caption that makes it appear as if we are staying at a hotel in Madrid, which is not true,” the legislator said.
While Monreal argued that he is on vacation, journalist Claudio Ochoa Huerta revealed that the Morena coordinator showed up at the aforementioned hotel for a supposed party for Morena deputy Pedro Haces, who is one of the Zacatecas native’s friends.
“Yesterday there was a party in Madrid to celebrate Pedro Haces. Ricardo Monreal headed the list of politicians. He stayed at the Villa Magna Hotel, which costs around 750 euros a night,” the Latinus host posted on his X account.
Américo Villarreal Jr.’s private plane trips

The Coahuila Welfare delegate, Américo Villarreal Santiago, reportedly made at least 25 trips by private jet in less than two months at the beginning of this year, spending approximately one million pesos.
The weekly newspaper Proceso documented that between January 31 and March 25 of this year, the federal official traveled by private jet every two days, totaling 25 trips.
Flight logs obtained by the magazine indicate that most of these trips were made from Tamaulipas (where he is originally from) to Coahuila, the state assigned to him to distribute federal social programs.

Américo Villarreal Santiago used a Cessna 340 for his trips, with hourly rents ranging between $1,300 and $1,800.
According to Proceso, the official’s minimum expenditure is at least 797,000 pesos, and at most, more than one million pesos.
Gerardo Fernández Noroña and his trip to Paris
Although the president of the Senate’s Board of Directors, Gerardo Fernández Noroña, appears modest and lax, he has demonstrated his fondness for traveling abroad frequently and in first class.
His trips, especially international ones, have been the subject of controversy on social media and in the media.
Just last June 17, Fernández Noroña was spotted at Mexico City International Airport (AICM) en route to Rome, Italy, to attend an interfaith forum.
The senator stated that this trip did not cost the Senate a cent and that he traveled in economy class, showing the ticket on his X account.
He traveled to France in business class
In March 2025, the Morena member traveled in business class to Strasbourg, France, to attend the European Conference of Parliamentary Speakers.
This trip generated controversy because he was photographed among the business class passengers.
Fernández Noroña explained that the Senate only covered the equivalent of an economy class ticket and that he paid the difference to travel in business class with his own funds.
The total cost of the trip was 157,000 pesos, of which he would have covered about 66,000 pesos.
Noroña, a frequent First Class customer
This is not the first time the Morena senator has been caught traveling in this section. In fact, he has gotten into arguments with politicians and citizens over this.
On previous occasions, the Morena senator has broadcast his video chats live from these VIP lounges.
In September 2024, Noroña reported that he was the victim of an assault in the American Express lounge inside Terminal 2 of the AICM.
The Morena senator was also the target of criticism for traveling to New Orleans, United States, to spend New Year’s there.
During his usual live broadcast from New Orleans, where he expressed his annoyance at the criticism he received on social media.
Luxury SUV

Noroña also faced criticism after being captured in a Volvo SUV after leaving the Morena National Council on Sunday, May 5.
In response to the accusations, Noroña asserted that the vehicle did not belong to him and suggested the media check the license plates to confirm it is not registered in his name.
“The Volvo lent it to me, because mine has been in the shop, no exaggeration, for four months. Volvo is an extraordinary brand, but they struggle with parts, since they come from Sweden. (…) It’s 2018, the Volvo lent it to me,” he said.
Morena Councilwoman Detained in Luxury SUV
Recently, Leylany Arce Richard, the second mayor of Atizapán, in the State of Mexico, was detained while traveling in an armored Suburban SUV with overlapping and supposedly expired license plates.
Photos shared on social media show the official inside the car, making a call, while security agents surrounded the vehicle.
In a TikTok video, Arce Richard denied that she was detained but rather that she was illegally deprived of her liberty and asserted that the van she was traveling in was not her property.
She also explained that the incident was an act of political violence orchestrated against her by Pedro David Rodríguez, the municipal president of Atizapán, a member of the National Action Party (PAN).
However, the Morena member asserted that these posts were recorded five years ago, when she worked as a content creator and collaborated with various companies dedicated to aviation, among other industries.
Marina del Pilar with luxury shoes and a large jacket
In addition to the revocation of her visa by the United States, another scandal is stalking the governor of Baja California, Marina del Pilar, as the Morena member’s luxuries are revealed, despite the fact that austerity is the norm within the 4T (Twin Transformation).
A few weeks ago, social media users reposted a photo of the governor with her husband, Carlos Torres, in which they displayed the expensive shoes she was wearing.
The pair is a pair of platform sandals by the Italian brand Gucci, which cost $1,190 on the brand’s US website, while on the Mexican website, it’s priced at 21,500 pesos.
Marina del Pilar’s little house in San Diego
Last May, images of the governor of Baja California, accompanied by her family, circulated on social media inside a house for sale valued at $4.5 million, located in San Diego, California.
The Baja California government immediately denied that the house belongs or ever belonged to Marina del Pilar.
In an official statement, it was stated that there is no legal, financial, or property link between the governor and the property.
However, it was reported that the property is owned by businessman Fernando Salgado Chávez, who is close to the governor and her family.
The property has been for sale since March of this year.
Mario Delgado in Portugal
Another Morena member who fell prey to temptations and luxuries was Mario Delgado, current head of the SEP (Spanish Ministry of Public Education).
The official was caught eating at the RIB Beef & Wine restaurant, one of the best establishments in Portugal.
Journalist Claudio Ochoa Huerta revealed images of the federal official eating at the restaurant with a woman.
According to the journalist, the photographs were taken in the middle of this month.
The average per person spent at the luxurious restaurant ranges around 50 euros, equivalent to 1,089 Mexican pesos.
