Residents of a neighborhood in the metropolitan area of Puebla City detained and assaulted two alleged thieves, one of whom was lynched to death.
Residents of the El Nopalito neighborhood, located on the border between the municipalities of Puebla and Cuautlancingo, detained two men they accused of attempting to rob a tortilla shop.
The Ovejuna (a small town) gathered in the main square and began beating the two victims and burned the motorcycle they were riding.

State and municipal authorities implemented a special rescue operation for people at risk of being lynched, but only managed to rescue one of them.
The second of the detainees died tied to a post as a result of the serious injuries inflicted by the settlers.
The State Government condemned the events that occurred on the border between Puebla and Cuautlancingo.

The State Government emphasized that, in a coordinated manner, the Ministry of Public Security, together with the Cuautlancingo Citizen Security Secretariat and members of the Navy, proceeded in accordance with the Protocol for Action in Cases of Attempted Lynching.
The state government stated that the officers prioritized protecting the physical integrity of the individuals and preserving public order.
However, it confirmed the death of one of the men.
“Authorities from all three levels of government emphasize that taking justice into their own hands is not the way forward, and they urge citizens to trust the institutions responsible for security and the administration of justice.”
