This Saturday night, the first hot air balloon launch took place at the INDECO Sports Complex, where hundreds of people joined in the activity that lit up the sky of Morelia.
In an interview with MiMorelia.com, Perla Cabrera Rojas, Director of Promotion and Interinstitutional Coordination for the Morelia Department of Culture (Secultura), indicated that the event, called “Lights in the Sky,” was promoted by Secultura in coordination with the Municipal Institute of Physical Culture and Sports (Imcufide).
“The intention is to organize an activity centered around this art form, and above all, to bring families together, build community, and strengthen the social fabric,” said the director, who also noted that prior to the balloon launch, a workshop on balloon making was held, as well as some recreational activities.

Cabrera Rojas estimated the attendance of around 500 people—including children, youth, adults, and seniors—although she specified that the exact number will be confirmed later. However, she emphasized the positive response to this activity, held for the first time at the sports complex.
“This is not a festival as such, but we know that other municipalities hold festivals specifically for the launching of hot air balloons. Therefore, by holding it at a sports complex here in this part of the city, we aim to bring this activity closer to the public in a family-friendly environment,” she emphasized.
