The opening of a new flight between San Luis Potosí and Puerto Vallarta is being explored with various airlines, according to Yolanda Cepeda Echavarría, head of the Ministry of Tourism.
Last July, the airline Transportes Aéreos Regionales (TAR) discontinued its flight between San Luis Potosí and Puerto Vallarta without explanation. Since then, both the Mexican Association of Travel Agencies and the National Chamber of Commerce, Services, and Tourism (Canaco-Servytur) have requested that authorities arrange for a new flight operated by another airline.
When asked about this, Cepeda Echavarría confirmed that both the Ministry of Tourism and the Ministry of Economic Development (Sedeco) are working to open a new route between these destinations, and the intention is for it to begin by the end of the year or be ready for next year’s Easter season.
He stated that the development of new routes is ongoing with the intention of expanding the air service offered at Ponciano Arriaga International Airport and thus generating a positive impact on both tourist and business travelers.
In this regard, he noted that other flights that have been requested are to Monterrey and Mexico City, as although routes to these destinations already exist, more frequencies are needed. He asserted that “we are going to do what is necessary to ensure that San Luis continues to do well in these areas.”
It is worth mentioning that, according to travel agencies, Puerto Vallarta is the most sought-after destination for residents of San Luis Potosí practically every holiday season. Therefore, they have emphasized that this is a profitable flight, as long as it offers better conditions than the canceled flight, as it has been subject to constant cancellations or schedule changes.
