Guanajuato’s Secretary of Government, Jorge Jiménez Lona, reported that the weekend rains damaged at least 210 homes in the municipalities of Silao and Apaseo el Grande, with no reported casualties in the state.
“The largest number of homes affected is in Apaseo el Grande, with around 130 homes, and in Silao, with around 80,” he explained.
He added that the state government continues to support mayors in assisting affected families.
Jiménez Lona explained that, although no deaths have been reported in Guanajuato, the situation in Querétaro has been more serious, with two deaths and one missing person reported, for whom they are assisting in the search.
“They have two dead people, one missing, and they asked for our collaboration because one person may have been swept away toward Guanajuato,” he said.
The secretary noted that coordination with neighboring authorities is key to preventing further damage.
“We need a lot of coordination. In the case of Querétaro, they are releasing their dams, and we haven’t cleared our channels. Flooding could occur in Apaseo el Grande and Celaya, but we are in excellent communication and waiting for the river tributaries to recede.”
Finally, he reiterated his call to the population to remain attentive to Civil Protection recommendations, as the rains will continue in the coming days.
