In the midst of the rainy and tropical cyclone season, more than 165 public servants from Quintana Roo participated in the “Hurricane Emergency Response” workshop held in Cancún by the National Civil Protection Coordination.

The event, held at the Ka’Yok’ Planetarium, aimed to strengthen the preparedness of state and municipal authorities, emergency services, and decision-makers in the event of hydrometeorological phenomena.

During the training, topics such as “Characteristics of Hydrometeorological Phenomena,” “Special Civil Protection Programs,” “Hurricane Response Protocol,” and “Damage Assessment and Needs Analysis” were covered. The purpose was to improve the theoretical and practical skills of response teams while promoting the exchange of experiences between institutions.

The director of the State Civil Protection Coordination (COEPROC), Guillermo Núñez Leal, thanked the participating agencies for their active participation and emphasized that the initiative is part of the actions promoted by Governor Mara Lezama Espinosa within the New Agreement for the Well-being and Development of Quintana Roo.

He also acknowledged the support of the head of the National Civil Protection Coordination, Laura Velázquez Alzúa, for hosting these types of courses that seek to strengthen the training of brigades and local authorities.

Multisector Participation

The workshop generated a strong response: participant registration was exhausted in less than a day, reflecting the commitment of public institutions to citizen safety.

Representatives from the National Water Commission (CONAGUA), armed forces such as the National Guard, the Navy, and the Ministry of National Defense, as well as state agencies such as the Ministry of Tourism, Citizen Security, Public Works, and the Drinking Water and Sewerage Commission, participated in the sessions. Municipal directors of Civil Protection, firefighters, the Red Cross, the Green Angels, and representatives from the private sector, such as CANIRAC, Nautical Associates, and the Hotel Association, also attended.

Núñez Leal emphasized that the collaborative work between the three levels of government provides certainty for citizens. He stressed that the protection and well-being of families is the central focus of state administration, and that ongoing training is the best tool to effectively address any emergency arising from tropical cyclones.
