More than 3 tons of methamphetamine were seized by National Guard (GN) agents, in coordination with elements of the Mexican Army, in the municipality of Ensenada, Baja California.
The seizure was made by the agents while conducting security patrols in the aforementioned municipality.
From a distance, the officers spotted two all-terrain vehicles descending the hills on a dirt road, so they followed them.
After catching up with them, they located the trucks a few meters ahead, without anyone on board, and they inspected the interior of each vehicle.
As a result of the inspection, containers containing a synthetic drug identified as methamphetamine, weighing more than 3.5 tons, were found.
Both the vehicles and the seized drugs were handed over to the corresponding Public Prosecutor’s Office for further investigation.
The operation was carried out within the framework of the “Plan to Strengthen Security on the Northern Border,” implemented by the Security Cabinet to prevent crimes and drug trafficking.
This Thursday, it was reported that a shipment of more than half a ton of methamphetamine was seized, hidden between pallets of stones in the state of Tamaulipas.
The operation was carried out by members of the Mexican Army and the National Guard (GN) during a security inspection at a railroad station in the city of Nuevo Laredo, Tamaulipas.
The shipment was located in a container from the state of San Luis Potosí bound for Arkansas, United States. Therefore, agents proceeded to conduct a preventive inspection with the support of a canine unit.
During the inspection, abnormal packages were detected in one of the cars. Upon inspection, they located 20 pallets containing 720 packages of synthetic drugs weighing more than 531 kilos.
The Secretariat of Security and Citizen Protection (SSPC) reported that the confiscated methamphetamine cost 144 million pesos, representing a loss of millions of dollars to criminal groups.
The National Guard reported that the seized drugs were being held by the corresponding Public Prosecutor’s Office for further investigation. No arrests were reported for this incident.
