The 99 small-scale roads being built this year by the Secretariat of Infrastructure, Communications, and Transportation (SICT) in Guerrero and Oaxaca, in coordination with the National Institute of Indigenous Peoples (INPI), will generate 19,290 jobs.

The agency announced that these hydraulic concrete works, executed with an investment of 1.442 billion pesos and a length of 220 kilometers, will benefit various Indigenous communities in both states.

It explained that in Oaxaca, 16 roads will be built, each 77 kilometers long, with an investment of 510 million pesos, creating 7,465 jobs.

It emphasized that among these projects, the small-scale road built in Latuvi, in the Sierra Norte region, stands out, with a goal of five kilometers in length.

He emphasized that this project will allow the Zapotec community to improve the marketing of their products, primarily peaches, apples, and plums, by shortening travel times.

He explained that in Guerrero, the number of roads will total 83, each 143 kilometers long, with an investment of 932 million pesos, generating 11,825 jobs.

He specified that in the Amuzgo community of that state alone, 12 roads, each 17 kilometers long, will be serviced.

He emphasized that the construction of artisanal roads, in addition to Oaxaca and Guerrero, is also being built in Durango, Chiapas, Nayarit, Sonora, Jalisco, Veracruz, Puebla, Colima, and Zacatecas.

He mentioned that the construction of artisanal roads is characterized by the participation of the communities themselves, both men and women, in the work.

Thus, it noted that these projects improve connectivity in marginalized rural areas, especially indigenous areas, by integrating them with markets, health services, and schools, among others.

The SICT stated that these artisanal roads seek to reduce inequalities, generate local employment, and facilitate access to essential goods and services for communities whose roads were previously dirt and often difficult to access.
