Dengue fever in Mexico: 7,501 confirmed cases and 32 deaths as of August

229

Mexico closed August with a surge in dengue infections: 7,501 cases accumulated so far this year, according to the latest report from the Ministry of Health.

In the last week alone, 578 new diagnoses were confirmed, expanding the virus’s presence to 28 states.

The epidemiological update, as of August 25, also revealed a significant fact: Chihuahua recorded its first case of dengue in 2025, leaving only four states without reports of the disease (Mexico City, Baja California, Tlaxcala, and Zacatecas).

Jalisco, Veracruz, and Michoacán top the list.

In the state breakdown, Jalisco was the most affected territory, with 1,253 confirmed cases, although no deaths associated with the disease have been reported so far.
Veracruz followed with 1,222 infections, Michoacán with 628, Chiapas with 452, and Guerrero with 438. Together, these five states accounted for more than half of the patients registered in the country.

Severe cases and circulation of serotype 3

Of the cumulative total, 3,700 people presented with dengue with warning signs or in its severe form, which is keeping the health system under surveillance. Serotype 3 continues to be the most widely circulating in the affected states, representing an additional challenge in care and prevention.

Dengue deaths in 14 states

Although the number of dengue deaths has not increased since July, the cumulative death toll remains at 32. The deaths were concentrated in 14 states:

Guerrero and Sinaloa, with five deaths each.
Michoacán and Tabasco, with three deaths per state.
Chiapas, Morelos, Oaxaca, Puebla, Quintana Roo, and Yucatán, with two cases each.
Guanajuato, the State of Mexico, Nuevo León, and Tamaulipas, with one death each.
Epidemiological surveillance of dengue fever in Mexico remains active, especially due to the spread of the transmitting mosquito to new regions and the increase in patients with severe symptoms.
