In all 113 municipalities, including the Michoacán capital, all public and private national holiday activities that promote crime will be canceled, announced state governor Alfredo Ramírez Bedolla.
At a press conference, he noted that municipalities have been notified by official means to comply with the law and avoid sanctions, because it is a crime to hire musical groups that promote violence.
He mentioned that he spoke with the mayor of Apatzingán, Fanny Arreola Pichardo, to cancel the performance of the group Los Hermanos Jiménez on September 15.
Ramírez Bedolla stated that there is coordination with the federal government to avoid any situation that promotes crime, and that if a violation of the law is detected during a holiday, “it will be canceled with the use of public force,” he noted.
Private events are also subject to the law, not just municipalities; also those who organize concerts, any type of private event that falls under the criminal category of prohibiting the apology of crime.”
Following the decree published in the Official Gazette of the State Government on April 16, 2025, it is prohibited to perform or play in open spaces such as plazas, auditoriums, stadiums, performance centers, fairs, and any other public spaces, music of genres commonly known as corridos tumbados, narcocorridos, progressive corridos, war corridos, altered corridos, and any other genre that promotes illegal acts, or alludes to criminal groups or individuals linked to them.
Furthermore, the Penal Code of the State of Michoacán was amended on May 29, 2025, which criminalized the apology of crime and established penalties of prison sentences and fines for those who promote violence and glorify criminal activities.
