A pair of agents from the Ministry of Security and Citizen Protection (SSPC) were deprived of their liberty while conducting investigative work in Michoacán, prompting a deployment by the Army and the National Guard, which led to the rescue of the officers.

After conducting operations in the municipality of Álvaro Obregón, three individuals were captured, Omar García Harfuch reported on social media on September 4.

“As operations continued in the area, three people were arrested and another victim who had been deprived of liberty was released,” the official shared.

Shortly after García Harfuch’s announcement, the Michoacán Ministry of Public Security (SSP) announced that the agents were located after a large mobilization involving state and federal personnel, and that the officers were not injured.

State security personnel, along with National Guard officers and officers from the State Attorney General’s Office (FGE), participated in the search.

“We have located the @SSPCMexico officers reported missing safe and sound in Álvaro Obregón, following an intense air and ground mobilization coordinated with state and federal forces,” the Michoacán SSP wrote on its X account.

The photographic material shared by the state institution shows some of the vehicles and equipment used in the search for the officers.

Likewise, officers from the Morelia region Civil Guard, as well as investigative agents and municipal police, participated in the intelligence work that led to the location of the individuals.

So far, the names of the three people captured in Michoacán after the officers were found have not been shared.

This is not the first time that security personnel have been victims of violent acts. On August 26, armed individuals attacked officers conducting a search in the municipality of Huaniqueo.

On that occasion, Civil Guard officers and FGE officers were investigating the disappearance of Alberto Floriano Quirós and Noé Floriano. During their investigation, they were attacked by armed individuals, which led to a confrontation and the arrest of seven individuals carrying a dozen weapons for the exclusive use of authorities.

By September 3, the captured individuals were charged and remanded in custody.
