He specified that the five confirmed cases occurred in Salvatierra, Guanajuato City, Apaseo el Grande, Santiago Maravatío, and León. The latter corresponds to the murder of Mónica, which sparked outrage among LGBT+ communities throughout the state.

However, he clarified that there could be more victims who are not being counted because the Prosecutor’s Office does not classify cases as transfemicides.

“We cannot talk about more cases because there is no legal definition and because sexual orientation or gender identity cannot be determined posthumously without confirmation from the person or their family,” he explained.

The undersecretary emphasized that the lack of definition creates opacity, since the Prosecutor’s Office does not keep specific records and the current data comes from organizations such as the LGBT+ Observatory or Visible, which are not considered official.

Finally, he announced that the report “Guanajuato Embraces Diversity” will be presented in October. It will include a chapter on hate narratives and their direct relationship with murders based on identity and sexual orientation.
