Oaxaca City urban transport concessionaires, accompanied by operators, protested this Wednesday at the end of the national flag-raising ceremony in the Alameda de León neighborhood. They accuse the Salomón Jara administration and the Secretary of Mobility, Yesenia Nolasco, of deceiving them about their participation in the BinniBus project and attempting to eliminate public transport concessions so that it would be operated solely by the state government.
The transporters pointed out that the CityBus project, now called BinniBus by the Jara administration, dates back to the Gabino Cué Monteagudo administration (2010-2016), in which the participation of Banobras and the purchase of buses was specified.
They charged that when the Salomón Jara administration took up the project, they were met and promised that the concessionaires would also participate and their operators would have jobs. They even participated in the truck presentation with various companies. This evaluation determined that the units to be acquired should be Volvos, which did not occur.
Suddenly, the state government and Semovi announced the acquisition of Chinese Foton Motors trucks, which were purchased secondhand in Monterrey and Mexico City. These units, they pointed out, had already been rejected for being of poor quality, they added.
In addition to this, the concessionaire companies and their drivers have been relegated, as they have no longer been taken into account. Even though they had been promised credit support for fleet renewal and the hiring of their drivers, this has not happened, as BinniBus has hired its own operators. The most serious accusation, they said, is that they have done so through an outsourcing model, which is illegal.
They also accused Salomón Jara of eliminating concessionary transportation, starting with urban buses and then doing the same with taxis and other means of transportation. This is intended to let the state government take the reins. However, to date, there are no clear reports on how much has been generated through the BinniBus and how the resources are being spent.
