Durango experienced a historic moment in the Tres Molinos area, where the El Tunal II Dam will be built, a project long awaited for more than seven decades and which today guarantees clean and sufficient water for the future. From this emblematic location, Governor Esteban Villegas Villarreal delivered his Third Results Report and stated, “A Giant has been born here,” emphasizing that the project will mark a before and after for Durango’s development.
In a message laden with symbolism, Villegas Villarreal emphasized that this administration is not limited to large-scale projects, but rather places families at the center. “Greatness is found in daily life: in the classrooms, in the hospitals, in the countryside, in those who go out to work, and in those who study to forge a better future,” he expressed, emphasizing that Durango is governed with greatness and heart.
The governor acknowledged the support of Mexican President Claudia Sheinbaum Pardo, whom he considered a close and humanistic ally. “Durango has in her a friend who believes in our land and our potential,” he stated, thanking the Federation for its support and the social vision promoted by the Government of the Republic.
He was accompanied by his wife, Marisol Rosso Rivera, president of the State DIF (District of Income), whom the governor recognized as a fundamental pillar in his personal life and in the social work that benefits thousands of Durango families.
Marisol Rosso acknowledged the support of the State Government in undertaking actions that benefit the most valuable: children, seniors, and vulnerable groups. She highlighted projects such as the Casa Hogar (Home for the Elderly) in Durango and La Laguna, the First Care Center for Seniors, the modernization of the CREE (National Electoral Commission for Education), and the Ruta de la Salud (Health Route), which has reached more than 70 communities. She emphasized that each of these efforts represents real stories of hope and dreams fulfilled for thousands of Durango families.
At the event, Villegas Villarreal was accompanied by the Undersecretary of Agriculture, Leonel Cota Montaño, presidential representative; Chen Daojiang, Minister of the Chinese Embassy in Mexico; and Manolo Jiménez, Governor of Coahuila. Former governors, representatives of the branches of government, mayors, legislators, and business, academic, social, and religious sectors also attended.
The Chief Executive requested special recognition for the Armed Forces, the Mexican Army, and the National Guard for their work in support of public safety. “If it weren’t for them, we wouldn’t be at the security levels we have,” he said, addressing the commander of the 10th Military Zone, General Salvador Alvarado Ramírez.

In his message, the Governor spoke about the political project that was conceived more than a decade ago and is now beginning to bear fruit, for which he thanked former governors Ismael Hernández Deras and Jorge Herrera Caldera. He explained that Durango’s transformation has been a long-term process that faced obstacles, but is now consolidating. “Today, a giant is born after a long time, and I want to tell you: no one will stop us; from today on, Durango, for Mexico and the world, will be a benchmark,” he stated.
The metaphor of birth was present throughout the speech, noting that this new stage took years to develop and required solid foundations. He recalled that previous administrations laid foundations that are now being revisited and strengthened to transform Durango into a competitive state, attractive for investment, and with better living conditions for its population.
With a firm call for unity, Esteban urged people to leave political and social divisions behind. “Mexico cannot accept any more internal conflicts; first our people, then our people, and lastly our people,” he emphasized, highlighting that true patriotism is demonstrated in solidarity and in the joint construction of a better future.
During the report, the heads of the state government agencies presented the results achieved in their areas of responsibility. The progress in infrastructure, social development, education, health, agriculture, and security reflected the comprehensive work of the Villegas Villarreal administration, under the guiding principle of strengthening the well-being of Durango families.
Finally, he reiterated his commitment to governing with vision, humanism, and results, always in the company of society. “We are all part of this giant that is being born today in Durango. Long live Durango, long live Mexico!” he concluded.
