President Claudia Sheinbaum said there was no certainty that the head of the Altamira Port Protection Unit, who committed suicide Monday morning, was part of the fiscal “huachicol” network that has been detected within the Navy.
In a press conference, the president expressed her solidarity with the family of Abraham Jeremías Pérez Ramírez, as well as with the Mexican Navy and Navy.
“There is no certainty that he was involved in this process. So, then, the investigations begin,” stated Claudia Sheinbaum.
The president emphasized that she does not accuse anyone who is not within the lines of investigation, but that she will do so until there is evidence against those accused.
In this regard, the Attorney General of the Republic, Alejandro Gertz Manero, also assured that Abraham Jeremías Pérez Ramírez was not linked to the fiscal “hucachicoleo.”
“I must tell you that this person was not linked to any of the cases we are handling. So it’s a matter (the suicide) of a different nature,” the prosecutor said when asked by the press whether the Attorney General’s Office would take over the investigation into the suicide.
Yesterday, it was revealed that the head of the Altamira Port Protection Unit, Abraham Jeremías Pérez Ramírez, had committed suicide in his office after authorities arrested 14 people linked to the “huachicol” scandal.
Federal sources confirmed this incident to journalist Carlos Loret de Mola and emphasized that he was mentioned by the former director of Tampico Customs, Alejandro Torres Joaquín, as having received bribes.
The former director of Customs in Tamaulipas stated that this official received 100,000 pesos to allow the unloading of a vessel carrying “huachicol” last year.
