Sinaloa has managed to position itself as the fastest-growing state in the country in the first quarter of 2025, thanks to a comprehensive strategy that combines security and economic recovery.
In an interview with Francisco Zea for Imagen Informativa, Sinaloa’s Secretary of Economy, Ricardo Velarde, highlighted the work of Governor Rubén Rocha Moya, asserting that the state is making steady progress, although there is still a long way to go.
With an extraordinary effort, the state has been very resilient and has helped us achieve good economic results. Despite a difficult year, these first four years of state government have accumulated, and Sinaloa has produced good data and good numbers,” he stated.
He also emphasized that the coordinated effort between society and government has allowed the state to record positive economic results, even in a complex national context.
According to updated data from INEGI (National Institute of Statistics and Geography), Sinaloa reported economic growth of 7% in the first quarter of 2025, placing it above the national average of 0.8%. Compared to the same period in 2024, Sinaloa grew by 2%, consolidating its position as a national benchmark in economic performance.
Velarde explained that much of this economic boost comes from the dynamism in key sectors such as agriculture, industry, and tourism, supported by a government vision committed to peace and security.
We have two priority areas this year: security and economic recovery,” he emphasized.
He recalled that one of the most significant achievements of the Rocha Moya administration has been the effective coordination with the Federal Government, which allowed Topolobampo, in the northern part of the state, to be designated as one of the country’s 14 Strategic Development Hubs.
Seven foreign investment projects are already concentrated in this region, with companies from the United States, Spain, Canada, and Europe, including the Swiss-German firm GPO. These investments represent an economic commitment of more than $13 billion for the coming years, anticipating an unprecedented industrial boom in Sinaloa.
He also highlighted that in terms of tourism, Mazatlán is experiencing its best moment in two decades, with more than 16 hotels currently under construction, which will increase the port’s hotel offering by 20%. Furthermore, there has been growing investment from international chains in cities such as Los Mochis, Guasave, and Culiacán, expanding the scope of tourism development throughout the state.
