Guerrero Governor Evelyn Salgado Pineda announced a series of measures to strengthen road safety and curb vehicle theft in the state after participating in the Interstate Coordination Meeting against Vehicle Theft with Mexico City Mayor Clara Brugada Molina and the governors of the State of Mexico, Delfina Gómez Álvarez, and Morelos, Margarita González Saravia.

Elimination of Irregular Documents

One of the agreements reached was the regularization of licenses and circulation permits. Salgado specified that documents issued irregularly by some municipalities will be eliminated and replaced with a single format with security measures, already endorsed in the State Official Gazette.

The governor explained that Guerrero currently has 36 REPUVE (Repuve) arches and 75 surveillance points that can detect stolen vehicles. In addition, she announced that before the end of the year, nine additional arches with 18 additional points will be installed, placing the state among the states with the greatest technological infrastructure against vehicle theft in the country.

Likewise, operations remain in place on the Autopista del Sol and on major communication routes, in coordination with the National Guard and state corporations, supported by the C5, C4, and C2 video surveillance systems.

The governors agreed that technological and operational coordination is key to reducing crime. Therefore, they agreed to strengthen information sharing and joint actions between neighboring states and federal authorities.

“This is a shared effort to guarantee citizen security and prevent those involved in car theft,” said Salgado Pineda.
