The city is preparing to welcome more than 40,000 visitors during the Fiestas Patrias weekend, boosted by the festive atmosphere, good weather, and the start of the fortnight, estimated the president of the Tijuana Tourism and Convention Committee (Cotuco).
Although it is not an official long weekend, Karim Chalita Rodríguez noted that the combination of factors such as the 12th being a Friday, the patriotic spirit, and the custom of celebrating during September will boost domestic tourism and local consumption.
He explained that on these types of weekends, tourist flow increases by between 20% and 30%, primarily due to domestic visitors who take advantage of the time to spend time with family and visit more popular sites in the municipality.
Increase in Domestic Tourism
He acknowledged that unlike US holiday weekends, where foreign tourism predominates, this time there will be an increase in domestic tourism, with compatriots arriving from other parts of the country or border residents seeking to learn about local traditions.
The head of the municipal government stated that the sectors that will benefit the most will be the gastronomic and hotel sectors, followed by shopping malls, cultural spaces, and tourist areas such as Playas de Tijuana, which tend to attract visitors for their symbolic and visual value.
He also indicated that, although not all agencies will take an extra day off, many families will take advantage of Friday the 12th at night and Saturday the 13th to hold commemorative activities or gather with family members.
Significant Increase
During these types of celebrations, he added, hotel occupancy may experience a significant increase, especially in central and tourist areas, so he recommended that local and foreign visitors make reservations in advance.
Chalita Rodríguez invited citizens to enjoy the national activities safely and harmoniously, emphasizing that these dates are an opportunity to strengthen and support the region’s economy.
